Accessing a Phone/Minutes
Resources available for those without a cell phone, minutes, and/or an active cell phone plan:
Assurance Wireless has an application for getting a free phone, minutes, and data (based on household income).
SafeLink Wireless also has an online application for getting free phone, minutes, and data.
StraightTalk prepaid minutes: compatible for Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint phones that do not have minutes; cards are sold at Walmart.
Gift cards: most major phone networks sell gift cards that can purchase minutes and are immediately transferred to the phone for use.
Internet/Wifi Access
Cox: Until May 12, 2020, Cox is offering a first month of low-income internet program, Connect2Compete, for free. The internet service is also providing free phone and remote desktop technical support during that time.
Spectrum is offering free internet to households that house students, college students, or teachers. Call 1-844-488-8395 for more information.
Although public libraries are closed, internet is still accessible in their parking lots. Please practice social distancing.
